Main character boy does something stupid and reckless， like voring some cursed demon appendages， and now he's got an appetite for more。 There's not much to say about this volume， really。 It feels a lot like Bleach， or Yu Yu Hakusho， but still has its own personality。 We're introduced to a cast of characters， exploring how the mechanics of the world works， and getting to know our main character and how the battles in this battle shonen are going to work。The art is alright with the highlight being Main character boy does something stupid and reckless， like voring some cursed demon appendages， and now he's got an appetite for more。 There's not much to say about this volume， really。 It feels a lot like Bleach， or Yu Yu Hakusho， but still has its own personality。 We're introduced to a cast of characters， exploring how the mechanics of the world works， and getting to know our main character and how the battles in this battle shonen are going to work。The art is alright with the highlight being the "monster" designs of the curses。 There's a decent blend of humour and tense drama， and I like how calmly they can give our protagonist motivation while also jumping in immediately to redefine how basic his motivation is。 I think most shonen battle mangas start out really basic and it takes a couple of volumes to get into the thick of why they are who they are， whereas halfway through this volume we're already being pressured into coming up with a better focus than just "do good things and be nice and stuff"。It's not the most innovative and fresh premiere volume of battle shonen I've read， but it's got a good foundation。 I look forward to seeing how the cliffhanger to this volume plays out as our opening arc continues。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 honestly the pacing in the manga makes it hard for me to really sympathize with any of the characters。 I don't know if it gets better but its just frustrating to read and figure out the story。 I wish we could have a better introduction to Yuji and the main characters instead of going straight to an action scene。 The magic system is also hard for me to understand， I get the curses and the abilities， but I don't see how that translates to the powers that each character has。 I can also see the naru honestly the pacing in the manga makes it hard for me to really sympathize with any of the characters。 I don't know if it gets better but its just frustrating to read and figure out the story。 I wish we could have a better introduction to Yuji and the main characters instead of going straight to an action scene。 The magic system is also hard for me to understand， I get the curses and the abilities， but I don't see how that translates to the powers that each character has。 I can also see the naruto influence in this。。。and tbh naruto still had a more cohesive story structure than this 。。。more

Content warnings: Body horror， consumption of body parts， animal death， gore， death of a relativeVolume 1 kicks off the series with Yuji’s occult club being disbanded， which results in a curse haunting him。 Then Yuji’s grandfather dies， leaving him with some inspirational words， leading him to consume a cursed object and become possessed with the King of Curses， Sakuna。 We’re introduced to the hierarchy of Jujutsu sorcerers and all their quirks。 And the volume ends with Sakuna taking over Yuji’s Content warnings: Body horror， consumption of body parts， animal death， gore， death of a relativeVolume 1 kicks off the series with Yuji’s occult club being disbanded， which results in a curse haunting him。 Then Yuji’s grandfather dies， leaving him with some inspirational words， leading him to consume a cursed object and become possessed with the King of Curses， Sakuna。 We’re introduced to the hierarchy of Jujutsu sorcerers and all their quirks。 And the volume ends with Sakuna taking over Yuji’s body。So much happens， and it’s a fun ride from first chapter to cliffhanger。 As with Volume 0， I love the creepy and scary monster designs。 Building up the relationship between Yuji and Sakuna also works， in a way that pits them as simultaneously enemies and reluctant allies。The magic just also speaks to me， and it’s presented in a way that doesn’t require too much exposition。 My personal favorite is Megumi’s ability to summon shadow monsters， and oh boy， are they useful in a pinch。 Though are mains are not overpowered from the get-go， which I appreciate in terms of tone-setting and pacing。 I’m concerned and excited to keep reading。 。。。more
